Dissolution of Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union- 1990's:
In 1991, both the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia broke down. While The Soviet Union managed to do it relatively peacefully, the break-up of Yugoslavia turned into the bloody Bosnian War. Yugoslavia consisted of six republics, one of which was Bosnia. Bosnia declared their independence from Yugoslavia in 1992, and the fighting started. The Northern Ireland Conflict:
The Northern Ireland Conflict was an on-going conflict having to do with various economic and political issues in Northern Ireland. When Northern Ireland broke away from Ireland politically in the early 1900's, Catholics and Protestants started to argue over independence from Britain. Through the early 1900's and the 1960's through 1990's there was hostile conflict between Catholics and Protestants. These attacks were known as "the Troubles". In the 1990's government officials started to take a hold of and stop the terrorist attacks, and the Good Friday Peace Agreement was accepted. Greece and Macedonia:
Macedonia and Greece have been in conflicts throughout time, going back and forth at each other over various issues big and small. One of the more recent conflicts was when Macedonia broke about from Yugoslavia and decided to become their own country in 1991, Greece came forth to protest against this action. Greece said the Macedonia should not be allowed to be its own country by its own name, with its own people (Macedonians) for many reasons. One: because Macedonia was a province of Greece, two: everyone in Macedonia spoke Greek, and three because Macedonians had be of Greek nationality since 2000 B.C.. Obviously Macedonia disagreed with this and rebuttled Greece's argument with the facts that they believed to be true: Ancient Macedonians were distinct European people and had their own language, the same should apply to modern Macedonians. Greece had always referred to Macedonians as foreigners and Macedonia was not a region of Greece, and before 1913, when Macedonia was partitioned to Greece, Greece was actually subjected to Macedonia.
